And gravity won't pull you through
You Know your missing out on something
Well that something depends on you
The above paragraph is the first verse from one of my favorite generations New Wave hit band of the 80's~
ABC -The Look Of Love(1982) I'd like to share with you a bit about the song and the music genre it falls under.
The music video for the song, taped on a soundstage, was influenced by old British music hall, the chalk pavement sequence in the Mary Poppins film, carnival sideshows, and Punch and Judy puppet shows; the four band members were featured wearing Edwardian-style light suits with vertical pastel stripes, accompanied by many colourful extras. The video vaguely pays homage to Gene Kelly's Ballet sequence from An American in Paris.
The single consists of four parts, referred to as "Parts One, Two, Three and Four". Part One is the standard album version, Part Two is an instrumental version, Part Three is a vocal remix and Part Four is a short acoustic instrumental part of the song, containing strings and horns, as well as occasional harp plucks and xylophone. A different remix version by producer Trevor Horn appeared on the 1982 U.S. 12".
Released as a single and as a 12" remix, they went to number one on the Billboard Dance/Disco chart as well as the Canadian pop singles chart. It was their biggest hit in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 4, and was a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., peaking at number 18.
If you judge the book by the cover
Then you'd judge the look by the lover
I hope you'll soon recover
Me I go from one extreme to another
I was the tender age of 13 when this song was released. WOW, that's been ages ago, huh? Please don't answer that! Anyway...I was very taken by New Wave, Synthpop, Electropop music. New Wave is a subgenre of rock music that emerged in the mid to late 1970s alongside punk rock. The term at first generally was synonymous with punk rock before being considered a genre in its own right that incorporated aspects of electronic and experimental music, mod subculture, and disco, rock and 1960s pop music. While it incorporated much of the original punk rock sound and ethos, such as an emphasis on short and punchy songs, it was characterized by greater complexity in both music and lyrics. Aww, the lyrics! I love to dissect lyrics to songs and bring my own meaning to them. I remember singing this while cleaning my room and thinking "What's MY look of love?" I really didn't know or completely understand my question towards such a subject(as I do now)but it sure was the start of a very complicated, full of Life, thrilling, crazy, and I have to say quite fullfilling time in my tiny little pre-adult love life. MAN what a ride!!!!!!!
